Jacob Roesch’s paintings explore the interiors, individuals and places that spark personal and visual interest in daily life. Moving to Bethel Connecticut in 2008 and spending large stretches of time in Elizaville NY, the landscapes of the Hudson Valley and Northern Fairfield County have become a strong influence on his work, pushing the artists’ interest outside the intimate interiors of his past into the vibrant textures, evolving colors and undulating planes of his surroundings. His recent oil paintings on panel examine the interactions of paint and surface and strive to simplify the complexity of light and form that encompass the northeastern landscape.
Jacob Roesch was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and has been exhibiting his work since 1993. He received a B.A. from Hope College, Holland, MI in Fine Arts and Biology, and attended the Royal College of Art in London during the summer of 1996. He received his M.F.A. from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY with a concentration in Painting and Design and an Ed.M. from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, NY in the College
Teaching of Art. He has taught at a number of Colleges and Universities including CW Post Long Island University and Kean University and currently teaches Graphic Design and Drawing and Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY.
